Studio Shmoodio lol

Why don't I have a studio?    Well let me tell you ! :)

I am sure there are plenty of photographers who might disagree, and some even very strongly with me but this is one thing that I currently really feel strongly about and let me tell you why.

I don't want to shoot portrait sessions in a studio..Granted there are plenty of advantages due to the weather here in Washington but I still favor the great outdoors or my clients homes for their sessions.

Perfect repeatable poses, predictable lighting, scrolling backgrounds, reusable props.

These may seem like pluses at first but from my point of view this creates a more sterile forced session with steps to follow and not moments of joy to remember. You might have to pack and rush to a studio where you are afraid your kids will touch something they shouldn't. It usually doesn't help the mood when the kiddo gets a bunch of "don't touch that", "sit right here","don't crinkle the backdrop". I use to hear those all the time.  Don't get me wrong, there was a time and place for the studio for me. That was when I was 16 and a half, learning & working my first job as a photographer at the Target Portrait studios.      Stories from those days should be their own blog post down the road....

I much more prefer a more Organic take on a portrait session. Let's create a day in time with memories and giggles, with new experiences and adventures. I want you to walk away from our session saying, "That was so fun and special",  and that you "Can't wait for the next time!".

It's just not as fun to walk out of a bright artificially lit studio, checking off a box that your session is finally over.

I take a more relaxed approach with more natural movement and genuine emotions but some classical poses mixed in too.  Lets explore a stunning location and see how you and your family respond to it naturally.
